Mini to launch Cooper SD

Date: 07 February 2011

Mini is to introduce the most powerful diesel model to its line-up this spring.

Hot on the heels of the Countryman and the Family the brand is to launch the performance Mini Cooper SD, powered by the new 2.0-litre 143hp, which will be available in Hatch, Convertible, Clubman and Countryman bodystyles.

It is the first time the famous Cooper S badge has been attached to a diesel model.

Also arriving in March in the UK is a new special edition Mini Clubman, the Hampton, and a special edition Hatch, the Pimlico. A new sports pack will be added to the Hatch and Covertible ranges.

Producing 143hp at 4000rpm, the Cooper SD is 28% more powerful than the Cooper D and 60% more powerful than the One D. In Hatch mode it has a top speed of 134mph and 0-62 acceleration of 8.1 seconds.

The SD comes with the brand's energy saving Minimalism features such as brake energy generation, auto start/stop, shift point display and electric power steering.

Prices range from £18,750 for the Hatch to £23,190 for the Countryman All4, with combined fuel consumption ranging from 65.7mpg to 57.6mpg respectively and emissions varying from 114g/km CO2 to 130g/km CO2.

Mini said the Hatch had a zero VED rate and a company car benefit tax rate of 13% including the 3% diesel surcharge.
