New M5 is fast and efficient, says BMW

Date: 27 September 2011

BMW has released details of the fifth generation its M5 performance saloon.

It claims the new model combines its trademark dynamic performance with significantly improved fuel economy.

The new M5 debuts a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with M Twinpower Turbo package. The M5 accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and hits a top speed of 155mph. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via seven-speed M Double Clutch transmission.

Average fuel consumption on the EU test cycle was 28.5mpg, which BMW claimed is a reduction of more than 30% compared to the previous model.

The addition of Efficient Dynamics technology, including Auto Start-Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration has helped to improve efficiency.

The Euro5 M5 has CO2 emissions of 232g/km.
