Nissan to launch new European fleet strategy

Date: 07 March 2011   |   Author: Tristan Young

Nissan is about to launch a new plan aimed at increasing the firm's fleet sales across Europe, according to sales operation vice president Bernard Loire.

Speaking exclusively to BusinessCar, Loire said he was on the verge of announcing the new plan to boost Nissan's fleet sales.

"Today we perform well in private sales, but there's space for improvement in fleet. We want to grow our market share and want to be the best-selling Japanese brand in Europe. In Europe fleet accounts for around 40% of the total; at Nissan we're running a 30% mix."

While Loire stopped short of giving details of the new Euro push, he hinted: "I'm going to announce a change on fleet in the next few weeks. We want to be ready to attack the market."

Loire said that once the right systems were in place to improve fleet sales then it would come down to the product range. He claimed that with cars such as the Leaf and Micra, Nissan had the "eco and economy" strengths required by fleets.

"We will also be producing products that will be more commercially focused. At the moment at Nissan we're very focused on private buyers. We don't want to lose that, but we want to add-in a fleet thinking."

Nissan will target "international key accounts and leasing firms with new people and new policies" under the new plan, according to Loire.

"Nissan was shy of fleet before, we didn't have the weight, confidence and trust. If we want to be a 4%-plus market share player from a 2% share we need to better our fleet position."
