Olympics to impact fleet mobility

Date: 02 June 2011   |   Author:

Business car operators have been warned that next year's Olympics will have a massive impact on fleet mobility in London, and in other cities holding events such as Coventry, and Manchester.

Attendees at ACFO's annual conference heard that disruption will commence from the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration in May through to at least September, with the Olympic Route Network prioritising competitors and key personnel resulting in potential road closures, dedicated lanes, suspended loading bays and other measures, plus fines increased to £200 for non-compliance.

"We're saying don't plan meetings in London," ACFO's John Pryor told the conference. "A couple of years ago people were saying you'd never get a hotel room in London - forget that now, you'll never even get in."

The London Olympics have been dubbed the public transport games, with no car parking available at any venue.
