Renault announces electric Kangoo Van Maxi

Date: 04 March 2011

Renault has announced that the Kangoo Van Maxi Z.E will join its range of electric vehicles, which arrives in showrooms in the final quarter of 2011.

Together with the Kangoo Van Z.E, the long wheelbase Maxi will give the brand two electric vehicles in the compact van segment by the end of the year.

The Maxi Z.E, which makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, will be priced from £17,990 excluding VAT for the two-seater and £18,690 for the five-seat crew van.

In addition it comes with a battery lease cost of £59 per month covering 9000 miles a year for four years.

The two-seat version has a payload of 650kg and a load capacity of 4.6 cu/m. Subject to confirmation closer to launch, it will also feature a full steel bulkhead as standard.

The electric Maxi's overall length is 4.60 metres - 40cm longer than the standard Kangoo Van Z.E unveiled at the Hanover Motor Show last year.

The long wheelbase two-seat derivative boasts a maximum load length of 2.90 metres and a height of just 1.82 metres, which enables it to access underground car parks.

Renault says the Kangoo Van Maxi Z.E will appeal to fleet operators, traders and public authorities who need substantial load carrying capacity while also driving down the overall CO2 emissions of their fleets.

The model uses a 44kW motor (equivalent to 60hp), which is powered by 22kWh lithium-ion battery housed beneath the floor. It has a combined-cycle range of 105 miles.

The electric van is distinguished by chrome Z.E badging at the rear and sides, the lack of an exhaust and the inclusion of a flap at the front, which allows the battdery to be charged in between six and eight hours.
