Techies 2011 - Best Remarketing System: BCA Auto Grade

Date: 23 August 2011

Three different winners in three years for the remarketing award, and it's the biggest name in the business that finally gets its hands on the prize.

BCA's Auto Grade is a new development implemented across the firm's auction centres, designed to standardise the vehicle appraisal process by removing the subjective human element from the process.

The system, developed with Microsoft, Motorola and mobile technology specialist TBS, uses PDA units with multi-level menus that cover over 160 components. The condition and severity of damage is recorded via sub-menus that create an overall 1-5 grading, sent wirelessly to BCA's main system along with extra pictures of damage as required.

BCA claims Auto Grade means it is the only auction firm guaranteed to be 100% consistent across all vehicle appraisals, and fleet vendors are benefiting from consistent vehicle condition data to help with driver damage recharge.

BCA claims the system will especially help with online sales, with 100,000 of its 600,000 sales in 2011 set to come through the web.

This category warranted Highly Commended recognition to auction group Aston Barclay's Dashboard, the vehicle data system that offers vendors sale-by-sale analysis of the market to allow disposal managers to judge their reserve price and make-up of fleet according to customer demand.

Dashboard provides data across sales conversion, sold vehicles, sales performance against Cap and reserve, stock vehicles and overage stock. Users can then access more than a dozen areas of interest, amend reserve prices and export data.
