Techies 2011 - Innovation Award: Experteye Touchpoint

Date: 23 August 2011

Experteye recently launched what it claims is the most innovative, advanced and intuitive driver satisfaction system in the sector, and BusinessCar's Techies judges agreed.

The winner of the first Innovation Award is the Touchpoint system already adopted by several top lease firms. It measures and reacts to driver feedback across order delivery, servicing, tyre replacement, glass repair, breakdown, pool vehicles and accidents, with each triggering an automatic online satisfaction survey. That gives contract hire or fleet management companies real-time web-based reports that can be used to make improvements, manage suppliers and provide customer reviews. Experteye claims firms can "tune into driver satisfaction far earlier than ever before, which is vital for faster resolution of problems and high quality client relations". All the measures can be plotted against industry trends.

The quality and quantity of entry in the Innovation Award category was so high - it was the one that attracted the most entries - that two Highly Commended awards were worthy.

Ford takes one for its MuCell technology, designed to produce lighter plastic parts by injecting tiny gas bubbles, much like an Aero chocolate bar. To be first used in engine covers, the tech cuts the amount of plastic needed by 20%.

Also Highly Commended was VW's Easy Boot Opening system. Described by one judge as "exactly what the Techies were devised to reward", the technology combines with VW's keyless entry system, and allows a driver with their hands full sweep a foot below the number plate, where a sensor automatically opens the boot. Simple in its brilliance.
