Toyota unveils all-new sports car

Date: 15 December 2011   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Toyota has unveiled an all-new small sports car at the Tokyo motor show known as the GT 86.

Developed in partnership with Subaru (a near-identical car called the Subaru BRZ has also been revealed), the new model marks an unusual departure from the Japanese company's traditionally reliable but often bland cars and a return to its performance coupe heritage.

The GT 86 features a front-mounted 200hp 2.0-litre boxer engine, supplied by Subaru, and

rear-wheel drive. Exact figures have yet to be confirmed but it is expected to reach 62mph in less than seven seconds and return in the region of 40mpg and 160g/km. It should cost between £25,000-£30,000 when it arrives in the UK next June, depending on exchange rates.
