BMW is preparing for a deluge of new models, bodystyles and engine additions to its existing model line-up, as well as opening up a new showroom dedicated to the firm's new electric brand, called i.

The i showroom will open in Park Lane, London, ahead of the first two electric vehicles launching in 2013: the i3 hatchback that will be offered in full electric or range-extender hybrid electric form, and the i8 range extender supercar that combines a three-cylinder petrol engine with electric motor.

The new models include lower entry-level price points for the 1-series and 5-series GT models, plus a three-door 1-series and a 3-series Touring, both launching along with the facelifted 7-series on 22 September.

BMW is launching a new price-entry point to its entire offering in the shape of the 114i. The 1.6-litre 109hp model will be available in three- and five-door form, offering 132g/km and 49.6mpg, and will cost from £17,300, with the five-door an extra £530.

That price rise will be replicated across the entire model line-up, with the engine and trim range for the new three-door mirroring the five-door.

The 5-series GT, the hatchback-cum-MPV version of the 5-series, is getting a new, lower entry price thanks to the addition of the 520d GT model, the first four-cylinder engine to go into the flagship of the 5-series range.

Deliveries will start in August, with the SE coming in at £36,605 and offering emissions of 139g/km and a combined fuel figure of 53.3mpg.

BMW is also increasing its hybrid line-up from one to three models later this year, with petrol-electric versions of the 3- and 7-series models joining the Active Hybrid 5 that launches this month.

The £40,235 Active Hybrid 3 will offer 361hp from the combined petrol and battery powertrains, along with CO2 of 139g/km and economy of 47.9mpg.

The luxury saloon Active Hybrid 7 will cost £66,040, but gets below 160g/km and offers 41.5mpg despite accelerating form 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds from its 375hp combination of petrol and electric power.
