The start point for the best source of fleet information

BMW's Steve Chater charts industry changes at ICFM conference

Date: 06 December 2012   |   Author:

BMW fleet boss Stephen Chater, who joined the ICFM council late last year and has supported many of his team in taking qualifications through the association, offered delegates a verbal trip covering the changes the industry has seen in the past 20 years.

Illustrating the shift in the two decades since the ICFM was first formed, he pointed out that in 1992 BMW was selling 40,000 cars per year in the UK, 30% of which were into the fleet sector, and the firm didn't even have a dedicated fleet department.

It's now selling 60% into fleet of the 120,000 per year it registers in the UK.

Looking forward another 20 years, Chater predicted driverless cars will become commonplace and electric vehicles will be inevitable, although he predicted only a 10-15% market share by 2030.
