Dartford Crossing toll charge to rise this Sunday

Date: 05 October 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Long-feared increases in the Dartford Crossing toll charge are due to take effect on 7 October. The cost will go up from £1.50 per crossing for passenger cars to £2.

Local residents will receive discounts, as will users of pre-paid Dart-Tag systems, although all charges will increase respectively. There will continue to be no charge for the toll between the hours of 10pm and 6am.

The price hike is said to be a measure to fund the introduction of electronic charging in 2014, supposedly removing the need to stop at the barriers.

The extra revenue could also be used to investigate the possible construction of a new crossing.
