Enterprise extends home-working trial

Rental giant Enterprise is extending its home-working programme after what it describes as "positive results" in the wake of a pilot scheme.
The trial involved employees from its call centre in Aldershot. Staff based there handle telephone reservations and the firm claims that growth has resulted in it running to near capacity.
After running the scheme for "only a few months", the company reported "improved retention, reduction in absenteeism and disciplinary issues, higher employee satisfaction and a more diverse work force".
It also said the retention level for its home workers amounted to 80% - 20% more than the national average for call centre staff.
Enterprise said the price of setting up such an employee equated to £1500 in introductory costs for the first year and would drop to minimal levels in subsequent years.
It said that the average operating cost of an office-based employee was around £5000 a year.
The company plans to eventually have half of its telesales staff work from home.
