Ford reveals Transit Custom Econetic

Date: 14 November 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Ford has unveiled the most frugal version of the new Transit yet, with official figures of 46.3mpg and 162g/km.

Available in short- or long-wheelbase form and dubbed the Transit Custom Econetic, the van features a number of economy measures, including a new system known as Acceleration Control, which limits the vehicle's ability to accelerate to what Ford describes as "achievable" levels when fully laden, which is claimed to cut fuel consumption by up to 15% and reduce brake and tyre wear.

The 100hp 2.2-litre diesel engine gets a stop-start system as standard and has undergone a number of other mechanical tweaks in order to boost economy and cut emissions. Ford is also offering fixed speed limiters 56-, 62- and 70mph as an option.
