Halfords servicing advert deemed 'misleading'

Date: 19 November 2012   |   Author:

Halfords Autocentres has had its knuckles rapped by the Advertising Standards Agency after the SMMT complained about Halfords' website claiming a saving of up to 50% on car servicing versus main dealers.

Although other complaints weren't upheld, the ASA found that the price for Halfords' service included a discount for booking online that was only available for a limited time.

The ASA said: "The comparison Halfords had made between their own time-limited, online prices and the non-promotional prices quoted by the car dealerships surveyed was not made on a like-for-like basis.

"We therefore concluded the claim was misleading."
