The start point for the best source of fleet information

Huge increase in 'reservations' for winter tyres, says Kwik-Fit

Date: 09 February 2012   |   Author: Hugh Hunston

Demand for winter tyres from fleets has generated unprecedented high levels of bookings for Kwik-Fit's tyre storage 'hotel' facilities despite most of Britain's roads being largely clear of snow.

Launched in September last year, Kwik-Fit Fleet's winter tyre campaign resulted in a 243% rise in winter tyre sales to business clients up until the end of December, compared with the same period 12 months earlier.

This generated a parallel 1391% rise in tyre storing hotel 'reservations' as fleet managers sought to be wise before rather than after the event, following two winters of widespread snow and ice.

Kwik-Fit's sales director Peter Lambert said that improved performance of the more rubber-intensive winter tyres in sub-7°C conditions reduced accident rates and contributed to cutting fleet operating costs.

The life expectancy of stored summer tyres was extended too due to less wear and tear, while winter tyres can last for two or three winters.
