IAM calls for road safety targets

Date: 11 December 2012   |   Author:

The Institute of Advanced Motorists has called for a renewed focus on road safety, particularly on reviving the target-based approach that was dropped by the current Government.

"I believe the time is right for a national road safety council and targets on a local and national basis," IAM chief executive Simon Best told the Institute's annual lunch event late last month.

"It could save 2500 lives and £4 billion. Investment in road safety saves lives and the country money."

Best said local authorities can play a crucial role in understanding where to invest resources for the most effective results.
