Industry shake-up as key fleet players recruit senior roles

Date: 20 August 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

A raft of top fleet firms have completed personnel or structural changes, including Mercedes and Glass's, who have both recruited.

Audi, meanwhile, has announced a restructure, while others such as AA Drivetech and Leasedrive have either appointed or promoted staff, while auction firm Aston Barclay has changed its managing director.

Mercedes has recruited Simon Lewis, formerly Infiniti fleet boss, as part of a new national fleet team it will be announcing next month, with other recruits to follow.

Honda's corporate operations manager Ed Hummel is to move to car valuation specialist Glass's on 1 October as its new sales director.

"We believe Ed's experience and expertise in sales will help us to grow our business and to transform UK sales performance," said Glass's MD Michael Bergmann. Hummel has been in charge of Honda's fleet sales for the past 18 months, and the firm is in the process of recruiting a replacement.

Audi is still looking to recruit a fleet boss following the departure of Iain Carmichael in May, but the firm has restructured to create a new head of sales role to control both fleet and retail.

Whereas Carmichael reported directly into Audi UK's MD, whoever fills the new position will report into Paul Sansom, who moves up from his previous role as head of aftersales and service, succeeding former operations boss Alison Jones.

The bringing together of fleet and retail under one boss is designed to "foster more efficient and more effective working practices across the two disciplines", according to Audi.

It's not clear yet what the job title of the new fleet boss working under Samson will be, according to a spokesman.

Auction firm Aston Barclay is looking to replace its MD, as Tim Hudson has left after two years to join Manheim as head of its remarketing and automotive services division in Australia.

Aston?Barclay Chairman Glenn Scarborough has taken the managing director role.

Training company AA Drivetech has appointed Simon Stammers as its new fleet director, replacing Paul Holmes who left early this year. Stammers moves from IT services firm Microformat.

Meanwhile, Leasedrive has appointed rental management director Joe Howick to its executive board after spending 12 months in the role and playing a "pivotal role in driving the sales growth" of the rental management business, according to Leasedrive commercial director Roddy Graham.
