Jaguar announces new two-seater

Date: 12 April 2012

Jaguar has confirmed it will return to the two-seater sports car market with the F-type, a production version of last year's C-X16 concept car.

The car, which will go on sale in mid-2013, is expected to start from around £50,000.

The aluminium F-type, which will be built at the manufacturer's Castle Bromwich plant, will initially launch as a convertible with a range of petrol engines available. A coupe version is expected to follow in 2014.

Revealed at the New York auto show, global brand director Adrian Hallmark said the reaction to the C-X16 concept in September 2011 had been "so positive" that development of an all-new Jaguar sports car had been accelerated.

Hallmark added that Jaguar has been absent from the market segment for "far too long".

Full F-type technical and range details will be announced later in 2012.
