Businesses could slash fleet mileage costs by up to 10% by using a robust mileage management system, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
The organisation said UK firms are expected to spend up to £10.9bn on fuel for their company vehicle fleets of four million vehicles in 2012, but by introducing a mileage management system they could make an estimated collective saving of £1bn.
It added that the move would also cut emissions by 10%, the equivalent of 2.4 million tonnes of CO2.
By accurately logging the number of business miles undertaken, drivers are encouraged to become more efficient in their fuel consumption.
Using Heinz UK as an example, the EST said the firm had seen overall mileage claims fall by 28% after trialling a mileage management system for its 410-strong fleet.
