Mazda restructure removes fleet boss role

Date: 19 March 2012   |   Author:

Mazda has removed the fleet and remarketing director role from its corporate structure, with Steve Jelliss moving to become director, market support for Mazda Ireland.

The business car operation will now be run by Steve Tomlinson, Mazda's national fleet sales manager.

The removal of the top fleet role is one of seven positions lost as part of Mazda's UK restructuring, and reflects a 2011 where the firm slipped one place to 19 in the fleet registration chart, recording a 22.8% drop in volume in a fleet market that was 4.4% up.

"Fleet sales remain important to us but there is a change in the way we want to structure it going forward," said a Mazda spokesman. "Our fleet sales have declined over the past couple of years.

"We firmly believe moving forward with the CX-5 and the new 6 we will see a resurgence in fleet but not immediately."

"The natural product cycle of our key fleet model lines and our reduction in high-cost areas, such as Motability and daily rental, have seen our fleet volumes reduce over the past two years," said Mazda UK boss Jeremy Thompson.

"Now that we are gearing up to introduce the all-new Mazda CX-5 this spring and further sixth-generation Mazda models featuring Skyactiv technology in 2013 we anticipate a significant growth in our share of UK fleet sales."
