Mitsubishi confirms plans to build plug-in hybrid Outlander

Date: 25 June 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Mitsubishi has confirmed plans for a plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander 4x4.

Due to be unveiled at the Paris motor show in September, the model marks the firm's first foray into any form of hybrid production and follows on from the diminutive i-Miev electric city car.

The company claims that the plug-in hybrid Outlander will be capable of around 500 miles with a full charge and a full tank and has a "CO2 target" of less than 50g/km.

It will bear a strong resemblance to the PX-Miev II concept from the 2011 Tokyo motor show and have the ability to switch between three driving modes to shift the bias of power between the engine, electric motor and a generator.
