Outcry over government's planned fuel duty rise

Date: 23 November 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

The Government is under pressure to delay its planned fuel duty rise of 3p per litre, currently scheduled for January.

A debate in the House of Commons earlier this month saw the shadow chancellor Ed Balls bid to delay the rise until April 2013, but was defeated after rumours of Government plans to address the issue in the forthcoming autumn?statement.

Numerous other bodies, including Asda and campaign group Fair Fuel UK, have objected to the planned price hike.

The chancellor's autumn statement is due on 5 December. Come back to BusinessCar online for up-to-the-minute coverage on the day.
