Risk awareness for fleets rockets

Date: 18 January 2012

Increased awareness of duty of care has led to a dramatic rise in the number of fleets devising risk management policies over the past five years.

That's the core finding of Alphabet Fleet Management's risk, rewards and rationale survey, which reports that the number of fleets with such policies is up from 37% to 98% in that period.

It also reports that while drink-driving remains a key concern among the 250 decision makers interviewed (66% - the same percentage as mobile-driving), it is eclipsed by speeding (72%).

These findings come against a background of growing awareness of the need for monitoring and improving driver safety, cited by 71% of operators, which rated above controlling operating costs and the environmental impacts of fleets, both of which registered 61%.

Grey fleet usage also remains a major issue, having an integral impact on most facets of fleet management.
