Skoda confims Rapid for production

Date: 09 April 2012   |   Author: Rachel Burgess

Skoda has confirmed its compact hatch, previously seen as the MissionL concept at Frankfurt last year, will go on into production and be called the Rapid.

The car, which falls between the brand's Fabia and Octavia, will go on sale in the UK by the end of 2012.

Talking about the Rapid, Skoda chief executive Winfried Vahland said: "This car makes a clear statement: precise and emotional. Lots of room for the driver, passengers and luggage. An ideal car for families."

He added that the car "perfectly embodies the brand's values: fresh design, functionality, roominess, ingenuity, and price-to-value ratio typical for our cars".

The announcement comes as Skoda expands its fleet team in the UK, appointing Jonathan Harris, Tomas Tichy and Alan Barrowman as fleet sales managers.

Harris is responsible for the South West and South Wales regions, Tichy for East Anglia, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire and Barrowman will oversee Scotland and Northern England.

Head of fleet sales Martin Burke said: "By 2015, Skoda UK aims to deliver 78,000 registrations per year, with half of the overall sales volume coming from the fleet market.

"To help achieve this, we're committed to investing in our staff to ensure we're best placed to deliver a first-rate service to both our burgeoning fleet customer base and future prospects."
