Toyota Prius plug-in open for orders

Date: 25 April 2012

Toyota's plug-in hybrid Prius

Toyota's Prius Plug-in is now available to order, with first deliveries due in early July. With 49g/km CO2, the electric hybrid costs £27,985 after the Government grant of £5000.

Rival models, including Vauxhall's extended-range EV the Ampera and sibling Chevrolet's Volt, are around £2000 more expensive, costing from £29,995 inclusive of the subsidy.

The single-trim Prius Plug-in has head-up display, satellite navigation, voice recognition and Bluetooth, rear-view camera, heated front seats and LED headlamps. Options include black leather upholstery (£1500) and rear privacy glass (£270).

Toyota has identified hybrids as a growing part of its business car plan: as well as the Prius Plug-in, there is the Yaris hybrid arriving in June plus the Prius Plus seven-seater MPV due from July, along with the new Lexus GS450h.
