Two Fiat Panda 4x4s on the way

Fiat will launch two versions of the Panda 4x4 later this year.

Speaking to BusinessCar, Rob Lake, senior product manager at Fiat UK, said that two variants, known as Climbing and Trekking will go on sale in September 2012.

Both will have similar features to the previous Panda 4x4 (pictured) such as raised ground clearance, mud and snow tyres, and additional exterior body mouldings, but only one, the Climbing, will have genuine four-wheel drive.

The Trekking version will be front-wheel drive with an uprated traction control system. Both variants will have petrol and diesel engines, unlike the previous generation, which was petrol only.

Lake also said that a predecessor to the Panda 100 warm hatch may also make production: "I believe we are going to do another 100hp, but I can't tell you any more than that."

The forthcoming models will follow on from the introduction of the new Panda, which goes on sales in March.
