Date: 21 September 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

BMW has announced a series of updates for the 1-series and 3-series.

A new 114d is now on offer with a 95hp version of the firm's 1.6-litre diesel engine offering 65.7mpg and 112g/km. It is expected to cost less than the cleanest 1-series Efficient Dynamics model.

The 3-series saloon is now available as an entry-level 316i with a 1.6-litre petrol engine 134g/km and 47.9mpg for £22,850.

The most efficient petrol version so far - the 320i - joins the range with 170hp, 53.3mpg and 124g/km for £25,730.

Two new diesel variants - the 316d and the 318d - and one new petrol - the 320i - are now available with the 3-series Touring estate.
