Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet unveiled

Date: 15 October 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Volkswagen has revealed a drop-top version of its new Beetle.

The Beetle Cabriolet features a traditional fabric roof that opens and closes electronically on all models and is capable of doing so in 10 seconds.

Three petrol TSI engines will be available from launch in 1.2-, 1.4- and 2.0-litre guise with 105hp, 160hp and 200hp respectively, alongside two TDI diesel engines: a 105hp 1.6 and a 140hp 2.0. Economy and emissions figures have yet to be announced but two cleaner and more economical Bluemotion Technology versions of both the 1.2 petrol and the 1.6 diesel will arrive shortly after the conventional engines.

The Beetle Cabriolet will be officially unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show on 28 November and will go on sale in the UK in spring 2013.
