The Volvo V40 R-Design, a sporty looking version of the brand's new premium small car, has been confirmed for sale from January 2013.

Under the R-Design banner, the car has a high-gloss grille with re-profiled front bumper and day running lights, twin exhaust tailpipes and 17-inch five-spoke diamond-cut wheels.

The interior gains embossed R-Design leather, TFT instrument display, sports steering wheel, sports pedals and unique aluminium inlays. Upgrade to the R-Design Lux,

Pricing is yet to be announced, but the standard V40 starts at £19,745. The engine line-up will match the rest of the range with the D2 model offering 115hp and 94g/km CO2.

Volvo said that the R-Design version is expected to account for 25% of UK sales and will help lower the age of its customer base.
