Advisory fuel rates shift for September

Date: 16 September 2013

HM Revenue and Customs has moved some of the Advisory Fuel Rate figures, with petrol rates for cars with engines over 1400cc and diesels between 1601cc-2000cc going up by 1p a mile.

Effective from 1 September, with employers allowed to use either the new or old rate this month, the changes put petrol rates back to where they were at the end of May, with 1400cc or under staying at 15p per mile, 1401-2000cc at 18p per mile and over 2000cc at 26p per mile, based on the HMRC taking petrol at 137.0p per litre.

On the diesel side, 1600cc or less remains at 12p per mile, 1601-2000cc goes up by a penny to 15p per mile and over 2000cc stays at 18p per mile, with the HMRC's calculations using the 141.7p per litre price.

For LPG, 1400cc or less sticks at 10p per mile, while 1401cc-2000cc comes down by 1p to 11p per mile and over 2000cc drops 2p to 16p. For calculating purposes, hybrids are classed as either petrol or diesel, depending on which internal combustion engine is fitted.
