The start point for the best source of fleet information

Ampera's medical tests

Date: 25 March 2013

Yorkshire Ambulance Service is trialling an Ampera, Vauxhall's most efficient model.

The petrol/electric Ampera will be run by the fleet for a few months as a rapid-response vehicle, with the thinking behind the trial being to see if and how a plug-in range extender can reduce the fleet's carbon footprint.

Richard Smith, who runs the 900-strong fleet of emergency and patient transport vehicles for Yorkshire Ambulance Service, said: "We are very excited to be the first ambulance service to trial an electric vehicle that will respond to incidents, reduce our emissions and provide significant savings on fuel costs. As it has both electric and petrol power we are confident that it is a viable alternative."
