Auction firm SMA launches green vehicle sales programme

Date: 21 June 2013   |   Author: James Dallas

Auction company SMA is to roll out a series of green vehicle sales following the success of a pilot event. The first Low Emission Auction took place on 4 June at SMA's Birmingham centre with 120 vehicles going under the hammer.

The company said some of its largest vendors - such as Ogilvie, Tusker, Sema Lease, TCH Leasing, Motability, ALD Automotive and Honda Finance - supplied vehicles for sale.

Speaking before the event, SMA national operations director Eddie Thomson claimed there was strong interest from buyers in environmentally friendly vehicles.

"We felt that there was an opportunity to provide for this demand in specialist auctions, which we are delivering in a low-carbon digital fashion by offering the sale through our online

auction capabilities as well as through our physical auction.

We know that the digital option will be well attended from buyers nationally, based upon the pilot auction run in May," he said.

SMA's fleet team inspected the vehicles, and also made images and details of emission status, road fund licences and manufacturer economy data available for transfer electronically.

Other than its Birmingham centre, the company operates physical auction sites at Edinburgh, Kinross, Leeds and Newcastle.
