Audi A3 Sportback scoops top What Car? Prize

The Audi A3 Sportback has won the 2013 What Car? Car of the Year award and also picked up the gong for Small Family Car of the Year.

With a list price of £19,825, the 1.4 TFSi 122 Sportback was praised for excellent refinement and an accomplished driving experience and for featuring the highest quality cabin in the small family hatchback sector.

Ford collected four awards. The Fiesta won the supermini category, the Mondeo was named the best family car, the Mondeo Estate scooped top estate car and the Ford Focus ST-1 was What Car?'s best hot hatch.

Another big winner was the BMW Group. The BMW X3 took the SUV award, while the BMW 320d ED automatic picked up the executive car crown and the Mini Roadster Cooper S was named best open-top car.

The Porsche Boxster 2.7 won Sports Car of the Year while the Seat Alhambra took the MPV award for the third year running.

The Audi TT captured the coupé category for the seventh time. The Range Rover was named Luxury Car of the Year and the Volkswagen Up! retained its City Car of the Year title.
