Cambridgeshire County Council launches Enterprise car sharing programme

Cambridgeshire County Council has introduced a car sharing programme run by rental giant Enterprise.
Eight vehicles have been collectively supplied to its offices in Huntingdon and March with the intention of replacing existing pool cars and grey fleet vehicles with more efficient alternatives.
A total of 250 employees have signed up to partake in the pilot scheme and there are plans to extend it to other council areas within Cambridgeshire if it is successful.
Alison Hurley, facilities services manager at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: "We intend to make car sharing the primary form of transport for our employees at the three initial locations wherever appropriate.
"[The scheme] will reduce costs and administration, and we're encouraging all our staff to use these vehicles rather than their own cars for work journeys.
"Sustainability and duty of care are the other major considerations.
"We have no influence over the CO2 emissions and condition of our employees' own cars, many of which could be several years old and much larger than they need to be for the journey in question."
Enterprise has also opened a new site in Wolverhampton's Cannock Road - its second in the region and 36th in the West Midlands.
