Car sharing hits Birmingham with Car2go scheme

Date: 22 May 2013   |   Author:

Car-share firm Car2go, a joint-venture between Mercedes-Benz and Europcar, has launched in Birmingham, offering 250 Smart Fortwo cars across 21sqm of the city in the 12-month pilot scheme, which follows the launch in London at the end of 2012, and takes the total to 19 cities worldwide.

Charges start at 35p per minute after a £29.90 registration fee, with discounted hourly and daily rates, and the cars can be parked in any pay and display bay without restriction.

The cars can then be taken either via the firm's app or by touching the membership card on the car's windscreen. The per-minute charge includes fuel, insurance and road tax.
