Carcom to relaunch in 2014

Date: 13 December 2013

Online vehicle remarketing firm Carcom, which launched at the start of this year, is currently not offering its services, but is expected to relaunch at the start of 2014.

Carcom was originally set up as a joint-venture by Bluecycle, the online vehicle salvage auction system from insurer Aviva, and Jon Mitchell, the managing director of Eastbourne Car Auctions. Bluecycle developed the online auction system, but was sold by Aviva earlier this year, which resulted in the end of the partnership and the shutting down of the Carcom.co.uk website.

However, Carcom is working on new auction software so that it can relaunch.

Speaking at Carcom's first launch, Mitchell claimed Carcom's system would provide a more direct, and lower cost route to used car retailers and generate higher disposal values for fleets and leasing firms. He added there would be around 1000 used car buyers on the system by the end of 2013.

Mark Thomas, Carcom's sales and operation director, told BusinessCar: "We are in the process of sorting out a new IT supplier. We did go live and we did get some activity, had auctions and sold some cars."

While the Carcom.co.uk website is not operational at present, its Facebook and LinkedIn pages are still live.
