Cardinus warns LCV fleets of driver risks

Date: 03 July 2013   |   Author: James Dallas

Businesses should put as much focus on health and safety on the road as they do in the workplace, according to John Davidge, head of fleet technical at Cardinus Risk Management.

He told delegates that 20% of drivers cause 80% of road problems within fleets and said firms could improve their performance by instigating safety, fuel use and maintenance regimes.

"Drivers must improve in tandem with the improvement to vans," Davidge said, and listed the most common bad habits of speeding, tailgating and inattention, for example  phone-driving.

Davidge warned that when an incident occurs involving a fleet driver the spotlight turns on the operator.

He urged firms to keep records of training and maintenance as proof of any measures taken.
