Cleanest-ever Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion open for orders

Date: 24 May 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Volkswagen's new Golf Bluemotion will emit 85g/km and return an official 88.3mpg

Volkswagen has opened the order books for its new Golf Bluemotion, the cleanest ever version of its lower medium model. Emissions stand at 85g/km, rendering it the cleanest vehicle in the segment currently on sale, while official fuel economy is pegged at 88.3mpg.

VW claims that the latest version is 15% more efficient than the outgoing model (which emitted 99g/km) and is theoretically capable of covering 970 miles on one tank of fuel.

Save for Bluemotion badging, it appears all but identical to the standard seventh generation Golf but sits 15mm lower and has undergone a series of aerodynamic tweaks including a roof spoiler and a masked grille to maximise efficiency.

It is powered by a 1.6-litre 110hp TDI diesel engine and starts at £20,335 for the three-door and £20,990 for the five-door.
