Ford launches voice activated apps

Date: 23 September 2013

Ford has announced a series of new voice-activated apps that will be downloadable through its Sync with Applink technology system.

Already launched in America, the Applink system will arrive in the UK with the launch of the small SUV Ecosport around March next year, and early partners include TomTom navigation, hotel room booking through Hotels.com and Audioteka audio books.

"Drivers will soon be able to control music, information and audiobooks; voice-activate navigation, find parking spaces and even reserve hotel rooms on the way to their destination, all while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road," said Ed Pleet, Ford's director of connected services, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa.

The Applink system will make its way across new Ford models as they launch, with Ford also encouraging other software developers to increase the suite of apps available to Ford drivers.
