Glass's: family car demand on the up

Date: 30 September 2013   |   Author: Tristan Young

Family cars have taken six of the top 10 places for the fastest-selling used cars during August, according to data from Glass's.

Based on average selling time, the top 10 was headed by the Ford B-max (25.5 days), the Chevrolet Orlando (29.0 days) and the Ford Focus CC (32.6 days).

Rupert Pontin, chief car editor, at the RV specialist, said: "Over the past six months we've seen 4x4s consistently take the most popular selling top spots - even at the beginning of summer when we expected the hot weather to boost sales of convertibles.

"This is probably the first month where the pattern is as we expected for the time of year - family cars are always going to be popular over the summer holiday period."

Looking to the worst-performing cars, the bottom five were the Mercedes Benz R-class (138.3 days), the MG TF (114.0 days), the Ford Streetka (94.7 days), the Nissan Leaf (91.5 days) and the Chrysler Ypsilon (84.7 days).

Pontin added: "The Chrysler Ypsilon has now become a regular in the 10 slowest-selling cars, and there is no surprise to see it's still struggling to find retail demand and identity in a crowded market.

"The Nissan Leaf will be one to watch. It is coming to the market in greater numbers but there is still distrust and low demand for electric vehicles, of which I think the Leaf is an excellent one."
