The start point for the best source of fleet information

Hitachi: Centrica renewal deal heralds electric van development

Date: 14 October 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

A renewed contract with energy firm Centrica sees top 10 leasing firm Hitachi Capital delving into electric vehicle usage.

The move, which sees the two companies consolidate a number of existing supply, rental and management contracts, also sees Hitachi working with British Gas (Centrica's trading name in the majority of the UK) as part of a collaborative development of the Nissan eNV200 electric van for future fleet applications.

In addition to the EV initiative, the contract comprises the management of 13,000 vans, the supply and management of 2000 company cars and support with business rental.

Hitachi's chief executive. Simon Oliphant, said: "We're delighted to have signed this new contract and to maintain a partnership with a flagship organisation. We're strongly committed to delivering on-going cost savings and driving cutting-edge innovative fleet solutions to ensure continuous contract performance and we look forward to carrying on this work throughout this contract."
