Honda reveals small petrol engines

Date: 26 November 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Honda has unveiled a new suite of clean turbocharged petrol engines. Known as VTEC Turbo units, they will be available in 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0-litre capacities and come under the Japanese brand's Earth Dream's green sub-brand, which currently encompasses the low-CO2 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine.

The smallest 1.0-litre version will have three cylinders, while the two larger engines will have four cylinders.

BusinessCar revealed the firm's plans for a series of clean petrol engines in January 2013.

The first to appear in the UK will be the 2.0-litre version in the forthcoming high-performance Civic Type R, which, according to Honda, will produce 280hp and meet Euro6 emissions levels.

That will appear in 2015, but further details and time scales for the other engines have yet to be revealed.
