Iveco calls for alternative fuel carrot

Date: 21 March 2013   |   Author: James Dallas

Iveco has called for further Government incentives to encourage operators to invest in alternative fuel commercial vehicles.

Having offered CNG-powered vans for 20 years, the manufacturer claims to be an innovator in the field, but it admitted: "There is little commercial advantage for operators at the moment in alternative fuels. We need legislative help and incentives from Government."

Coca-Cola and supermarket giant Tesco both run fleets of CNG-powered Daily vans but Iveco maintains that neither company has an economic business case for doing so but use the vehicles in order to boost their environmental credentials. Iveco added that in 2012, as in the previous year, it did not sell any electrically-powered Daily models
