Lex Autolease targets SME business

Date: 07 June 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Lex Autolease, the UK's largest leasing company, has reported a 22% hike in its small and medium business customers throughout 2012 and announced that it is gunning for more trade in this area.

The firm added 9400 SME clients last year, creating a total of 42,000 such companies on its books and contributing funding of £260m to the sector. It claimed that CO2 for vehicles supplied to those customers dropped by 10% from a fleet average of 148g/km to 135g/km in 2012.

Lex is attributing the increase in SME business to a greater awareness of the costs associated with sole traders and small companies running company vehicles.

Tony Murtagh, head of SME at Lex, said: "A large percentage of these businesses rely upon their vehicles to carry out their day-to-day operations and we want to provide them with the support they need to keep on the road.

"More than 40,000 SME businesses have chosen us as their vehicle partner. We want to significantly grow this figure in the forthcoming years."

The move shows yet another rise in interest from the country's biggest leasing companies in small and medium contract hire, and follows number two leasing giant Leaseplan's launch of its dedicated SME service Leaseplan Go in 2012.

The subsidiary firm was a rebrand of the former Fleet Line service and was designed to increase business in the sector.
