London Probation Trust switches to rental

Date: 28 November 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

The London Probation Trust claims to have slashed costs by using rental rather than of grey fleet. Four months after the move, the organisation, that works with offenders to protect the public and reduce re-offending, estimates it has saved £13.55 on every journey and is on track to save £60,000 a year.

The decision to replace the reimbursement policy of just over 60p per mile applies to all of the trust's 2500 employees. The rental policy itself involves a variety of different options such as daily and long-term rental as well as hourly car shares arranged by Enterprise.

Greg Dungan, the organisation's management accounting manager, said: "We were strongly impressed by the business case for rental. In particular, the risk management implications were compelling."
