Mazda 3 Fastback saloon joins new hatchback

Date: 22 July 2013   |   Author:

A Mazda 3 Fastback saloon variant will be launched alongside the five-door hatchback version of its new lower medium model late this year.

The saloon version will be lighter and more efficient than the five-door, coming in with CO2 of 104g/km, one benefit-in-kind band below the hatchback's 107g/km, although Mazda has yet to confirm if they will be priced at the same level.

The Fastback is 120mm longer than the five-door, and that means an extra 69 litres of boot space, taking it to 419 litres.

The same range of three petrol engines and one diesel will appear in both bodystyles, with the 150hp 2.2-litre diesel joined by a 100hp 1.5 petrol unit that's new to Mazda, and 120hp and 165hp versions of the 2.0-litre petrol unit.

The two lower-powered petrol models both get under 120g/km, while the 165hp petrol engine returns 135g/km.
