Mercedes cuts new S-class emissions to 146g/km

The new Mercedes S-class will have emissions as low as 146g/km in the UK

Mercedes-Benz's new S-class luxury saloon arrives in the UK in the fourth quarter of this year, with efficiency figures for the S350 diesel standing at just 146g/km and 51.3mpg for the short-wheelbase version.

But that's not the end of the CO2 story, as an S300 diesel hybrid is also under consideration, offering 115g/km and 64.2mpg, incredible figures for such a large car. The diesel hybrid has yet to be confirmed for the UK, but could be here within 12 months.

Mercedes has, though, confirmed that the S400 petrol hybrid will arrive in the launch line-up, offering 147g/km and 44.8mpg, but it will be more expensive than the diesel.

An S500 Plug-in Hybrid offering at least 72.4mph is also under development.
