New low emissions claims for LPG

Date: 17 October 2013   |   Author:

LPG is 11% cleaner than petrol for tailpipe emissions and 15% cleaner on well-to-wheel emissions when comparing equivalent models powered by the different fuels, according to new research presented as part of the World LP Gas Forum held in London earlier this month.

The research, by Atlantic Consulting, came from what LPG provider Autogas described as "an extensive database of vehicle testing information supplied by car makers to the German government".

"The UK Government has supported LPG with less duty and we would urge it to take the findings of this report and make a long-term commitment to supporting the fuel differential rate between LPG and the more expensive alternatives," said Autogas UK general manager Linda Gomersall, who said any move would help encourage manufacturers to offer LPG versions.

Autogas said there are 1400 LPG filling stations and around 160,000 LPG cars on UK roads. The current price per litre of LPG is around 70p.
