Nissan Leaf becomes first electric Motability model

The Nissan Leaf has become the first electric car to make its way onto the Motability scheme. An advanced payment of £999 will secure the Visia entry-level model, while it's £1299 for the Acenta model or £1999 for the top-spec Tekna trim. The purchase also includes a free 16-amp home-charging unit installation from British Gas.
This comes as the firm announced that 13 rapid electric car charging points have been installed at Welcome Break service stations on UK motorways as part of Nissan's tie-up with green energy company Ecotricity. The systems have the capacity to bring a Leaf to 80% charge in 30 minutes and there are plans to have them installed at the majority of Welcome Break stations by April 2014.
Ecotricity founder, Dale Vince, said: "The main barrier in people's mind to the take up of electric cars is their travel range and charging times.
"These issues are one and the same. Concern over the distance an electric car will travel on a single charge. can be overcome if you have the right charging infrastructure in the right locations - to quickly recharge."
Nissan has also scored a pair of fleet deals with its CVs. It has secured one contract to supply Primastar and NV400 vans to dry-cleaning firm Barker Group in Bournemouth and another that sees Midlands-based plumbing and heating firm Vinshire supplied with NV200s.
