One in 10 fleet drivers branded high risk

Almost one in 10 (9%) of work car, van and truck drivers have a high risk of having an accident according to a decade's worth of online-risk driver assessments by E-Training World. Almost a quarter were branded low risk (23%) with the rest (68%) representing a medium risk.

The company said the research should illustrate the money can be saved by firms that have traditionally given on-road driver training to a higher proportion of their drivers.

"The aim of any risk assessment is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a driver and establish what risk they pose when behind the wheel," said E-Training World managing director Graham Hurdle.

"Our system achieves that by taking the long-established methods of establishing a driver's attitude, knowledge, concentration and observation, and hazard perception."

Hurdle said his statistics don't factor in elements such as a driver's age, higher-mileage users or licence penalty points, focusing purely on an employee's concentration and ability.
